Gillian Pressman
Generation Citizen Greater Boston Site Director
Gillian joined Generation Citizen in 2011. She comes to GC from BELL (Building Educated Leaders for Life), where she spent three years growing and managing BELL’s alumni program, the BELL Alumni Society. As the founding leader of the BELL Alumni Society, Gillian created, delivered, evaluated, and took to scale a wide array of services to empower alumni of BELL’s after school and summer programs to continue to excel and ultimately reach college and career success. What has most excited Gillian in her work at Generation Citizen is watching young people discover their sense of agency. She loves that GC students who may have started the semester intimidated by even writing letters to their government officials come to realize that their leaders care about what they have to say. She loves watching GC students who previously felt powerless to solve problems around them leave the semester knowing that they can change the world. Gillian also loves that Generation Citizen brings diverse groups together - – the action civics experience is simply not possible without students, teachers, school administrators college students, elected officials, community organizations, the business community and donors and supporters, all at the table. She has especially enjoyed facilitating events that commune all of GC’s diverse partners, such as Civics Day and the Civic Tech Challenge.
Gillian is originally from Tarrytown, NY and earned a B.A. in Religion from Princeton University.. She has been in Greater Boston since 2008 and loves how this region is full of such incredible history and so many interesting ideas. Outside of work, Gillian dances and performs with several Boston- and Cambridge- based dance companies and is an avid Crossfitter. She welcomes emails from anyone who wants to get involved in Generation Citizen Massachusetts or talk about Crossfit.
